The Philosophy
Italian cooking as an act of joy
Gioia, Italian for joy, is the restaurant built around a single, sincere belief: that the most beautiful food in the world comes from Northern Italy, and that its beauty is inseparable from the pleasure of making it. Fresh pasta rolled by hand each morning. Vegetables coaxed into complexity through patience and technique. Sauces that ask nothing of you but your full attention.
Inspired by the traditions of Emilia-Romagna and the great dining culture of Northern Italy, Gioia approaches each ingredient with reverence. The menu is rooted in seasonality and simplicity — a style of cooking that values balance over complication, and allows exceptional ingredients, thoughtful technique, and time-honored recipes to speak for themselves.
The dining room is warm, lively, and unhurried; the wine list is rooted in the northern regions; and the bread and fresh pasta that define the menu arrive each morning from Provisions Bread & Cheese, our bakery just three doors down. At Gioia, hospitality is measured not by formality, but by the feeling that you’ve arrived somewhere you already belong.
Our Standard — 01Handmade Pasta, Every MorningEvery strand, sheet, and shape at Gioia is rolled by hand each morning — no shortcuts, no exceptions. Our commitment to fresh pasta never wavers. | Our Standard — 02Rooted in Emilia-RomagnaOur menu draws directly from the rustic traditions of Northern Italy's most celebrated food region. Simple, honest ingredients transformed into dishes that feel both timeless and intentional. | Our Standard — 03The Season Sets the MenuWe don't build a menu and find ingredients to match — we start with what Long Island farms have at their best and build around that. The plate changes because the season does. |
What Defines Us
The soul of Gioia
Hospitality Without PretensionAt Gioia, great hospitality is felt — never forced. The room is polished but relaxed, attentive without formality, and designed to make every guest feel completely at ease. | Aperitivo & CocktailsClassic Italian aperitivi, house-made infusions, and a bar program designed to complement the table. From Negronis to seasonal spritzes, drinking at Gioia is approached with the same intention as the food itself. | Italian Cooking As An Act Of JoyGioia is grounded in the belief that Italian cooking is meant to bring people together — generous, soulful food prepared with care and meant to be shared. |
“True Italian cooking has no shortcuts and needs no spectacle. It only needs good ingredients, genuine care, and someone who understands why Gioia — joy — is the whole point.”
— Chef Jesse Schenker
